Oprah Winfrey tops Forbes magazine’s list of entertainment’s highest-paid women. Having earned an estimated $165 million between May 2011 and May 2012, the talk-show veteran and producer is pretty much in a league of her own.
Some of our favourite artists, however, have shown that they’re ready to take on the network legend. Britney Spears proves that she really is a comeback queen, landing in second place of the list.
Thanks to album sales, her “Femme Fatale” tour – which saw her perform in over 70 shows from June to December 2011-, her endorsement deals and fragrance line, the 30-year-old pocketed an estimated $58 million.
Hot on her heels is Barbados native Rihanna. In November 2011, The “Man Down” songstress dropped her sixth album “Talk That Talk,” following the success of her fifth album, “Loud”. Rihanna released hit after hit, toured the world, appeared in several commercials, released a new fragrance and made her big screen début, racking up around $53 million from May 2011 to May 2012.
Imagine earning roughly a million dollars a week…For Lady Gaga, who earned $52 million in a single year, that’s a reality, made possible namely thanks to her “Born This Way” album sales and tour.
Tied with “Mother Monster” at $52 million is the most powerful entertainer on the planet according to Forbes, Jennifer Lopez. The 43-year-old performer, whose activities include music, film and television, knows a thing or two about diversification, having scored a lucrative portfolio of endorsement deals.
Finally, after starting the year with a divorce, 27-year-old Katy Perry kept it together, and had accumulated an estimated $45 million by May. The “Teenage Dream” singer matched Michael Jackson’s record by landing five No.1 singles from the same album, becoming the only living artist to pull off the feat.
With all these ladies bursting with yet more new projects for 2013, we can’t wait to see who tops the list next year.
