Amy Winehouse

British singer Amy Winehouse will not be going to jail; the troubled songbird was acquitted on July 24, in London of assaulting a fan who asked her for a picture during a charity event last September. The 25-year-old “Rehab” singer had always maintained her innocence. She testified that she was aggravated and intimidated by the fan and that she wanted to be left alone.

According to different reports the singer fanned herself with a notepad throughout the hearing and she did not leave her seat until the judge appeared to deliver a not guilty verdict. The Judge Timothy Workman said that there was not enough evidence to prove that the singer intentionally punched dancer Sherene Flash in the eye. But prosecutors claimed that Winehouse, 25, deliberately assaulted Flash.

“I’m relieved. I’m going home,” Winehouse said while leaving the courthouse. Through a written statement a spokesman also sated that the singer was “very happy to move on with her life and put the episode behind her.”

Winehouse was recently granted a divorce from her ex- hubby Blake Fielder-Civil and she is currently working on the follow-up to her Grammy-winning “Back to Black” album.
