Alicia Keys Directs First Film

In addition to singing, acting, and writing scores for Broadway shows, Alicia Keys can add directing to her extensive resume. Lellow recently made her directorial debut with a 20 minute short entitled “Lili,” one fifth of Lifetime network’s film series “Five,” which follows the stories and struggles of five women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Alicia Key’s segment of the movie, made in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, stars a lawyer named “Lili,” played by Rosario Dawson, whose condition positively changes her relationship with both her sister (Tracee Ellis Ross) and her mother (Jenifer Lewis). The directors of the film’s four other shorts include Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Penelope Spheeris, and Patty Jenkins.  The movie is tied together by an oncologist, portrayed by Jeanne Tripplehorn (HBO’s “Big Love”), who treats each of the cancer carrying characters and in the fifth film is diagnosed with the disease herself.

“Five” premieres Monday, October 10th on the Lifetime channel, a U.S channel, check out a clip below.
