Akon

Akon knows no boundaries when it comes to his music. The singer, whose originates from Senegal, traveled to India earlier in March to record a track for an Indian film. The Bollywood market has a 1.2 billion fan base, so if you do the math it’s no wonder Akon has chosen that arena as his next area of focus.

On his recent trip, Akon spent three days in India. He arrived in Mumbai with his entourage of family and friends and received a huge welcome from Indian fans. The RnB star recorded a song in Hindi and English for the Bollywood sci-fi movie “Ra-One,” which features hunky Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan as a flying super hero. Akon donated his services and does not act in the movie but will appear in the music video for the film’s soundtrack.

Akon is not the first American musician to feature on the soundtrack of a Bollywood movie. Snoop Dogg did his rap thing, in English, for the 2008 Bollywood film “Singh Is King.”

Word is Akon will be back in India in April 2010 to do a series of concerts but for now he is headed over to South Africa to do a one night only concert in Durban at the ICC on the 28th of March.

For the musicians who want to break into the music industry, watch out for Akon’s new reality music competition that will showcase artists singing their own music online. The competition is open to musicians worldwide so it will be interesting to see who Akon will choose to be the next superstar, after all, this is the man who first believed in Lady Gaga.
