Drake’s latest music video earned major buzz these past few weeks. First he got us all emotional with the “God’s Plan” music video and now the internet can’t stop talking about the clip for “Nice For What”, his newest song. The track uses a sample from Lauryn Hill’s classic hit “X-Factor” and the video accompanying it features 15 of the dopest women in Hollywood.
Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi, Laetitia Wright, Zoe Saladana, Tracee Ellis Ross, Syd, Tiffany Haddish, Misty Copeland, Rashida Jones, Jourdan Dunn and many more all shine in the cinematic visuals. And guess what ? The director behind both video is 22-year-old women who is starting to make waves in the industry.
Karena Evans works at Popprok, a production company founded by legendary film director, Director X. The man shouted out his protégé on Instagram and gave us a little background story on her come up.
A Toronto native, Karena as worked with clients such as SiR, Anders and Belly and has also created content for brands such as Nike and ABC.
Evans is also already making history as she recently became the first woman to receive one of Canada’s highest honors for music video direction in the Prism Prize’s Lipsett Award for her innovative creative approach to music video art.
