If hip hop remains a much-maligned genre in some countries, in most of them it has become part of the culture and accommodated to the societal needs and requirements. That’s how a huge number of hip hop tracks managed to become smash hits and therefore classics. Since Google & Youtube were curious to fully understand their audience, they both used all the data generated by their respective browsers to rank the most searched/played tracks. And the results are quite striking since hip hop is the most searched and played genre on both platforms far beyond all the others genres. A hegemony that confirms the trend that we already noticed on the Billboard charts where Fetty Wap single handedly put 3 singles in the top 10 of the hot 100.
