A history of Drake’s beefs

The Meek Mill vs Drake clash that started last week reminds us that behind his “cool dude” appearance Drizzy is not as liked as he could let us think in the rap industry. Since he blew up on the scene a few years ago, the Canadian rapper arouses as much admiration as hatred from a lot of his fellow rappers. We can notice that he has never started a feud in which he has been involved. Furthermore that’s less his talent as an artist than the man which is the target of the shots fired at him.

Apart from his skill to switch from rapping to singing as much as he wants that makes the old generation upset, Drake often suffered from his love for women in his career.

Here are five cases:

COMMON

First female-related Drake beef – back in 2011, Drake is spotted with Serena Williams a few weeks after she broke up with rapper Common. Rumours about a relationship were fired up when Drake tweeted to Serena “‘I Can’t Wait To Put It On You And Make You Sweat… during our match this weekend.”

Later that year in his single “Sweet” Common who is known for being a calm and rational artist throws shots at Drake: “Yeah, man, Y’all niggas man, you soft muthafuckas/Yeah my man, muthafucka/Then come around my crib/You know where I’m from/Some ho ass niggas/Singing all around me man, la la la/You ain’t muthafucking Frank Sinatra/Uh, lil’ bitch/Yeah, this the raw right here/This the raw right here nigga/Sweet muthafucka/Sweet ass bitch muthafucka”. Few months later, Drake dropped a bar in “Stay Schemin” insinuating Common just did it to sell more records and raise awareness.

After Common striked back again, the feud stopped.

CHRIS BROWN

Drake and Chris Brown have someone in common in their love lives : Rihanna. Both artists are both Riri’s exes. One night while they are both attending at the same party in a night club, a brawl started involving Tony Parker and an Australian tourist as well. They both got wounded in the fight. War between Drake and Chris extended on Twitter with Meek Mill doing a cameo when rumors rose about the potential relationship he had with Riri.

We all thought beef was over when Drake invited Chris Brown in a prank for ESPY’s Awards on ESPN. But peace didn’t stand long and few days after Breezy put oil on the fire. Drake later responded in his hit “Energy” rapping about “R&B niggas that I gotta act like I like”.

Listen to “Yamaha Mama”, the never released Drake/Chris Brown collabo.

TYGA

More than a simple beef, it’s an ongoing conflict between two men here. In a interview for Vibe, Tyga said “I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me”. A lot of people seem jealous of Drake as he is Young Money‘s lead artist. Drake’s reaction consisted of trolling T-Raw by liking his ex-wife Blac Chyna pics on Instagram. Tyga trolled Drizzy too when he invited his ex to appear in “Make it Work” video.

Finally diss track were dropped, Drake killing Tyga with a devastating bar in “6PM to New York” : “I heard a lil lil homie talking reckless in Vibe/ Quite a platform you chose, you shoulda kept it inside/ Oh you tried, it’s so childish calling my name on the world stage/ You need to act your age and not your girl’s age”, referring to Kylie Jenner.

DIDDY

By the end of 2014, a fight between Diddy and Drake took place in a club sending Drizzy to E.R. after Bad Boy’s boss awakened his shoulder injury. The brawl was due to Diddy’s anger after Drake reportedly stolen the beat for “0 to 100” to him.

MEEK MILL

Maybe unhappy about how his album sounded, Meek Mill found Drake guilty of critical reviews about “Dreams Worth More Than Money”. Or maybe Meek Milly is uncomfortable with the fact that Drake is featured on “R.I.C.O” considered by a lot of listeners as the best track of the album. Or maybe he doesn’t like the fact that on countless occasions Drake said many time he would like to marry Nicki Minaj. You see Drake, mo’ woman mo’ problems…
