TRACE Urban and the Sophie A Kanza Foundation celebrated Mandela Day in the spirit of giving back.
This year TRACE dedicated its efforts to Look Forward Creativity Centre with the Sophie A Kanza Foundation. Look Forward Creativity Centre is a home for children who are abandoned, neglected, abused and orphaned. The centre gives the children a loving family as well as a place they can call home and feel safe.
TRACE has partnered with the Sophie A Kanza Foundation over the years to give back to the community. Foundation founder, Sophie Kanza says, “Mandela Day is always a great way to get more people involved in our youth volunteerism projects. We always hope to retain volunteers that can assist us in making a difference all year round. It’s amazing to see how many eager youth come out to give of their time. ”
Mandela Day is an internationally recongized day in honour of Madiba’s contribution to society at large. In 2009 the Mandela Day campaign was introduced as a tool to mobilize citizens with a social justice mandate. This year marks the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.
The day at the Centre was filled with laughter and games as the volunteers and TRACE employees played with the children. “We are very excited to have worked with TRACE again this year for the third year in a row. We are grateful for their support and need to make a positive impact in the community, ” added Sophie.
