In case you missed it, Kanye West released an exclusive track called “Facts” on New Years Eve. The song is a diss track to the Nike empire; not even LeBron James (brand ambassador) is spared.
There is still no release date for Kanye West’s upcoming album Swish but the rapper blessed his fans with a fresh track to kick start 2016. Ye released a Metro Boomin-produced track on December 31st and it has been making waves ever since. Indeed, Kanye settles the score with former collaborator Nike. The shoe brand and Kanye West ended their partnership back in 2013 and the artist who has been working with Adidas ever since, won’t stop trash-talking Nike. However, him dedicating a whole track to diss the brand is a first.
The track is not only a dish to Nike but it’s also an ode to Adidas and the Kanye-created sold-out Yeezy Boost sneakers. The “All Day” singer even threw major shade at Nike’s collaborator LeBron James who recently signed a lifetime contract with the brand. He raps “Nike, Nike treat employees just like slaves / Gave LeBron a billi’ not to run away.” Ouch.
In a recent interview with Cleveland.com, the basketball player was asked how he felt about the record. Not only did he reveal that he hadn’t heard the track yet but he replied that he would stand by Nike no matter what. “Phil Knight’s greatest saying is ‘always listen to the heart of the athlete [and] listen to the words of the athlete. And that’s all it’s about, nothing else. Obviously I’m going to side with Nike no matter who it is. It’s just, it’s family when you talk about Nike, and I’m always on their side no matter what the situation is.” Corporate, much?
