ELLE is a a worldwide lifestyle magazine of French origin that focuses on fashion, beauty, health, and entertainment. There are more than 46 editions of ELLE in the world. But with only one tweet, ELLE Canada sparked a controversy.
Indeed, ELLE Canada posted a tweet about Dashiki (this famous colorful garment for both men and women widely worn in Africa that covers the top half of the body) saying: “the newest it-item of note.”
Nevertheless, as the dashiki is traditional outfit, how could it be new.
Thus, twitter users started to express their anger about this tweet.
Here are a few tweets:
"Dashiki the new it-item" I'm done with these blogs yo I swear fo' God I am.

This is so irritating. NOTHING about a dashiki is new. It's been the "it-item" in African countries since forever https://t.co/4OoLuDmize
