On 7th to 9th December 2018, 50 Soweto school girls will showcase their smart, creativity and competitiveness in the first ever AI in Soweto boot camp. The girls attending the boot camp are aged between 15-18 years old. They will make use of artificial intelligence (AI) to come up with holistically solutions to tackle social challenges using technology.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
TRACE together with Old Mutual and Microsoft South Africa have committed themselves to the empowerment of African Youth through various initiatives.The intervention will showcase the aptitude and skill of tomorrow’s problem solvers addressing challenges of today, under the principle of ‘AI for Good’.
The intense 2-day boot camp on December 7th and 8th at Microsoft South Africa will be followed by a showcase event at eKasiLabs Soweto on Sunday 9th December, where the girls will present their solutions.
AI in Soweto will comprise a series of workshops and hands-on ‘building’ sessions. This will allow the scholars to learn about AI, design thinking and pitching to come up with relevant solutions. The girls will also have the opportunity to explore digital courses.
