TRACE Urban honours Mandela Day

TRACE Urban and the Sophie A Kanza Foundation celebrated Mandela Day in style this year.

On Saturday singing sensation Bucie, spoken word artist and singer Busiswa and rap superstar Emtee were among the celebrities who made Saturday a special day for the kids at Malaika Children’s Orphanage in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

The day was set aside to honour late South African President and struggle stalwart, Nelson Mandela, who was born on July 18 1918.

The United Nations General Assembly declared in 2009 that his birthday would become an internationally recognised day, in honour of his contribution to the world.

The fun-filled day included face painting, sweet treats and hot dogs as well as a photo booth.

Foundation Founder and TRACE employee, Sophie Kanza, says the day was meant to be memorable: “We wanted to give the kids an experience of a lifetime – touching and interacting with their favourite personalities.”

The day was certainly one the children and celebrities alike won’t be forgetting soon and saw #TRACEMandelaDay trending throughout Saturday afternoon.

Have a look at some of the day’s highlights below:
