Janelle Monáe, Maxwell to perform at Women’s March in D.C

Angelique Kidjo, Mary Chapin Carpenter & more will also perform !

The Women’s March being held in Washington D.C, fresh off a strong Beyoncé co-sign, goes down January 21th . The two artists, Janelle Monae and Maxwell will also be joined by an eclectic supporting cast, with performances from the Indigo Girls, MC Lyte, Angelique Kidjo, Mary Chapin Carpenter and more.

In addition to those performers, celebrity participants will include Cher, Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson, Zendaya, America Ferrara, and more. According to Billboard, a number of other artists have signed-on in a more official capacity. Questlove, Grimes, Rakim, Neko Case, and more will join the “artist table” for the march and its “sister events.”

“I am honored to join this critical movement to bring justice and equality to all,” Monae said in a statement. “Music has always been a powerful tool for galvanizing unity and I believe that singing and standing together, our voices will be stronger than any force that tries to repress us.”

The march’s Facebook page shows that over 200K people are aiming to march, while 50 to 70K people are planning to march in NYC and LA. There will also be Women’s Marches in London and across the UK.
