Dua Lipa and Stormzy win big at the 2018 BRIT Awards

Dua Lipa and Stormzy won the most prestigious prizes during the 2018 BRIT Awards beating out more experienced competitors.

The two breakthrough acts were both double winners as they snatched major prizes on Wednesday night at The O2 Arena in London. Dua Lipa, 22, took home British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Artist awards dedicating her solo artist trophy to all the female musicians who “have allowed us to dream this big“.

Stormzy, who has helped propel the grime genre into the mainstream, was named best male British Solo Artist, and also won Album Of The Year, for his solo debut Gang Signs and Prayer. During his acceptance speech, the 24-year-old thanked God, his mother, his family, his team and the area of South London, where he grew up.

Other notable winners included international artist Lorde (International Solo Female Artist) and Kendrick Lamar (International Male Solo Artist). The Compton rapper later took the stage for a performance that was highly confusing (a lot of technical difficulties) for viewers, alongside Dua Lipa, Justin Timberlake, Rita Ora and Liam Payne who also performed that night.
