Rap Community Mourns Passing of Comedian Patrice O’Neal

On November 29, prominent comedian Patrice O’Neal died due to complications from a stroke suffered in October, he was 41. 

The diabetic stand-up comic’s booking agent, Matt Frost, told TMZ “It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O’Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00 AM due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19…Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side. Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family’s request for privacy at this difficult time.”

Today Twitter took off with condolences for the comedian who previously performed on shows such as “The Office,” “Chappelle’s Show,” a recent Charlie Sheen roast and satelitte radio’s “Opie and Anthony.” 

Russell Simmons said “RIP Patrice.”

The Root’s Questlove lamented “so grateful i got to see Patrice Oneal do his last NYC gig. man this is so devastating. he truly was one of my favorite comics. RIP Patrice.”

Bun B tweeted “Damn. Sad. Such a funny dude. RT @dasracist: RIP PATRICE O’NEAL.”

Fellow comedian Kevin Hart stated “I’m at a lost for words………..#RIPPATRICE.”
